The Blue is the Ferrari of all marlins, naturally everyone wants to catch one. Vava'u is Marlin Country, recording astounding numbes of catches, and tag and releases not only in tournaments, but in recreational outings, too.
Its proximity to one of the deepest troughs in the Pacific - the Tongan Trench - ensures a steady food supply for mighty marlins and other game fish for which Vava'u is famous. When Tonga hosted their very first International Gamefishing Association tournament, Vava'u was the natural choice and has very successfully continued to host TIGFA, which is one of the most popular game fishing tournaments in the South Pacific.
