Neiafu's quaint, seaside flavour emanates from both man-made and natural architecture; but it's those smiling faces across the town that you'll remember, too!
It's the cathedral, built by Marist missionaries in the early 1830s, that catches your eye during that initial stroll along Fatafehi road. It's the main road in the business district of Neiafu, parallel to the harbour that locals call "Old Lolo". (Lolo means coconut oil). Another memorable first sight, if you're lucky to be in town beneath the full moon on a still night, is a gaze across the harbour; that's when you'll discover the essence of Old Lolo. |
